Hi! Welcome to my website!

My name is CHERYL BLOOMFIELD and

I am a LANDSCAPE ARTIST IN OILS.

My art career has been a steady, exciting journey since childhood, with a passion to learn and improve my artistic endeavors for my entire life. My goal in painting is to bring you to an awareness of the beauty in nature, to feel the elements of the scene, and to enjoy the beautiful treasures on the back roads of America.

My landscape scenes are mostly from the beautiful Eastern and Western Sierra mountains of California. I marvel at the untamed beauty where we live, and I feel it must be shared with others. I mix paint with a limited palette of three yellows, blue, red, gray and white. By using a limited palette, I've been taught that it gives the painting a cohesiveness and unity. The reason I make art is to simply share my experience of becoming one with nature. If I can bring a viewer into the spiritual realm of entering a painting, helping them to feel as if they are actually there, then I have connected them to a beauty that they may never touch in their busy and demanding world. For my painting process, I use an undertone, sketch out the scene onto canvas in 4-6 shapes, lay in my darks, mediums and highlights. I use more detail than what is popular right now (two values, no details), because I think the special details help to draw the viewer into the scene. It’s not just any old place. It’s a one of a kind place, where the water is flowing and the cedar trees are blowing. It’s the artist’s magic, best done by the heart and soul. It’s the soul’s connection of becoming one with the scene. It’s only then, I can mix the paint for the hues of a dew drop, or the shadow change of the wave, or the color of a cat’s eye highlight. Now I’m ready to truly paint, to let the viewer experience my process, to hover with me to see the sights. It’s an introduction of participation, asking the viewer to experience my process, what I saw, what I felt, enabling the viewer to have the connection to the painted scene before them that will now become a part of their life too.
